Wispr Flow is a polished dictation tool with good cleanup: it strips the ums, fixes the punctuation, and adapts to how you write. It works on macOS, Windows, iPhone and Android.
The thing to know before you pick it is where your voice goes. Wispr Flow transcribes on its own servers, not on your computer. That is a deliberate engineering choice on their part, and they have been straight about it - they have said on-device processing at the quality they want is not practical at consumer scale yet.

Where Wispr Flow is the better pick
If you are on Windows, or you want the same dictation on your phone and your laptop, Wispr Flow covers ground we do not. MightyMouse is macOS only. Wispr Flow also offers HIPAA-ready agreements and SOC 2 on its enterprise plan, which matters if your employer requires it on paper.
And their cloud model is genuinely good at cleanup. If you dictate long messy paragraphs and want them tidied hard, that is a real advantage of doing the work on a big server.
Where MightyMouse is the better pick
Three cases, plainly:
You do not want your voice on someone's server. Lawyers, clinicians, therapists, anyone under an NDA, and plenty of people who just would rather not. Local Whisper means the question does not come up.
You talk a lot. 2,000 words a week is about twenty minutes of talking. If you dictate all day, a cap you can hit on a Tuesday is the wrong shape. Local transcription has no cap because there is no meter.
You want the words to do something. Select a paragraph and say "make this warmer and shorter" and it is replaced in place. Ask about the file you are looking at. That is not dictation, and it is the reason MightyMouse exists.

Is local transcription worse?
It is different. A large cloud model can do heavier cleanup on rambling speech. Local Whisper is accurate at getting the words right and does less rewriting. For most dictation the gap is small, and you can always hand the text to your AI backend for a proper rewrite - which is the same round trip Wispr Flow does automatically, except you choose when.
Do I need an AI subscription?
No. Connect a Claude, Codex, Gemini or OpenCode account you already pay for and MightyMouse costs nothing. Have none? Sign up and use the built in option, no card needed. Voice transcription is free either way because it runs on your Mac.
